Manny Pacquiao Twilight of his career - Roach

MANILA – Manny Pacquiao will have only a couple of fights left whatever the outcome of his fight against Brandon Rios, according to his boxing trainer Freddie Roach.

Roach admitted that his prized ward is nearing retirement as the Filipino boxer gives more time to his political career.

“I hope he becomes president of the Philippines or something like that, you know that's his dream I'm sure,” the boxing trainer said in an interview with Fight Hub.tv.

Pacquiao got re-elected as congressman of Sarangani province in the May 13 elections.

It is also evident that he wants to stay in politics for sometime since he even encouraged his wife Jinkee to also join politics.

Jinkee won as Sarangani vice governor in the mid-term elections.

Roach said he keeps a close eye on Pacquiao and looks for signs during their training sessions.

“Once I see him slow down or start to not train so hard, I'll make him retire. But at this point, he's very focused on where he wants to go.”

The boxing coach added that there aren’t many opponents left at Pacquiao’s level.

The Filipino boxer chased elite boxers like Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather Jr., but both fighters want nothing to do with the Filipino superstar.

This is why Pacquiao's camp ended up taking a bout against Rios, who is a risky fight with relatively lower reward.

“I want Manny in an action fight and this will be a tough one... it's a little bit dangerous of course,” said Roach.
